Forever Unequal?

A while ago, I read that the rate of increasing day-old female corpses having been steadily rising in Pakistan - a country in poverty. I had been wondering why this was occurring. Why are we throwing our baby girls away? They grew from a mother's body, inside her womb for nine months, and eventually came into this world. Children itself are a wonderful miracle. Then, there are also many that cannot conceive, who have prayed and dreamed of having their own children that were never granted. Why are these people abusing these privileges and going on to destroy their little loved ones.

The reason was clear. There is still the "Boy-is-better-than-girl" thinking. Many countries in Asia and the Middle East acquire dowry with the marriage of their daughters. That itself maybe extremely frustrating for a country in poverty who cannot even afford to feed themselves.

Another influence would be that many of the girls still cannot access education. They're meant to be housewives who stay at home to care for their children, cook and sew. Therefore relying on their husbands for financial support. That makes a woman vulnerable, having to follow exactly what her husband demands, or else her and her children would not be able to survive. Since they have no education, getting a job is just a dream.

But a non governmental agencies are trying to stop this tragedy by placing baby cribs outside their offices. These girl infants will be put up to adoption. As for the babies that have been too unfortunate to stay in this world, I hope they find a better haven where they will be fortunate to have a better life.
